Community Meetup 2026
On May 5, 2026, the first Modelica in Process Engineering – Community Meetup will take place in Cologne. We bring together people who use Modelica in process engineering or want to advance the field—from initial ideas to productive applications.

The meetup is a community event focused on the use of Modelica in process engineering, organized by TLK Energy. Its goal is to bring together stakeholders from industry, research, and software development in order to:
The focus is on exchange and networking rather than a traditional “lecture-style” conference. In addition to short impulse talks, there will be plenty of room for discussions, questions, and informal conversations.
Participants from the following organizations have already confirmed:
Bayer · RWTH · Hyundai · FZ Jülich · Metso · FBK · DLR · Modelon · AIT · TLK-Thermo
Engineers and developers
from the process industry (e.g. chemicals, energy, process plants) who currently use or are evaluating Modelica
Researchers and PhD candidates
who work on modeling, simulation, and process systems engineering
Tool and library developers
who provide Modelica-based software, libraries, or interfaces
Decision-makers
and project managers
who are considering using Modelica in process engineering projects
Whether you are just gaining your first experience or have many years of practice, what matters most is the motivation to advance the use of Modelica in process engineering.

Table 1: Use of Modelica in Industry
Key questions such as: Why has Modelica so far seen little use in the process industry?
What are the real barriers, in terms of organization, tools, and skills?
Table 2: Potential of open standards such as Modelica and FMI
Key questions such as: What new opportunities do open standards create?
What new workflows or applications could emerge?
Table 3: AI in Process Engineering and System Simulation
Key questions such as: How is generative AI changing modeling and simulation?
Where are the opportunities, and where are the risks?
Session 5 – From Discussion to Collaboration
Open discussion of possible joint initiatives, e.g., benchmark models for process engineering, open model libraries, digital twins, real-time simulation, and potential research projects.
Networking and Drinks
Dinner (included in the price)
Joint dinner at the Malzmühle brewery
TLK Energy has been working with Modelica in industrial and research projects for many years. During this time, we have seen growing interest in Modelica within process engineering, while opportunities for exchange remain limited. The Community Meetup creates an open, independent space focused on exchange, shared learning, and advancing the use of Modelica in process engineering.
A registration fee of €180 will be charged per participant. This fee covers the costs for the venue, catering, and the evening program.
TLK Energy does not generate any profit from organizing this event.
The number of participants is limited to 45.
